We are trying some new things around here. We are trying to save more money and make some of our own everyday products. Cheaper, Greener, More Natural. Since we use Norwex products we don't really use any all-purpose cleaners anymore anyway, but there was sill some things that we use that were chemical products (dish soap, hand soap, laundry soap, dishwasher soap, etc..). For those few things we are trying to make our own. Yesterday, I made our first homemade laundry soap, and it was EASY!!
I researched many recipes and ended up with a powdered one and added a couple more things just cause I had it around. Here is what I did. I grated and then pulsed with the chopper 3 bars of Fels-Naptha (found in the laundry isle at Walmart for $.97) in our food processor. I divided it and put in two big, clean, old ice cream pails.
Added 4 cups (2 cups in each pail) of Arm & Hammer Washing Soap (also found in the laundry isle at Walmart for about $2.35 or something like that for the whole box).
2 cups (1 per pail) Oxy Clean just cause I had it and want to use it up.
2 cups (1 per pail)Borax (also found in the laundry isle at Walmart)
2 cups (1 per pail) Baking Soda
Mix all put in Ziplock bags
Use about 1 TBS. to 1/4 cup depending how soiled each load is.
This amount should last 4-6 months!
So far it works really, really well. It comes out to about $.01 per load. Can't beat that!!!
