Messy Face!

We went to the doctor today as it was set up upon our discharge from the hospital. Doctor Amstutz checked him over and listened to him. He sent us home on 3 days of an oral steroid, so he wouldn't have anymore breathing difficulties until his croup is all cleared up. One of the side effects is hunger. That why my little guy has been so hungry, from when he got the steroid shots in the ER! He slurped his cereal down again this evening.

First Cereal

Last night we decided to feed Vollen his first cereal. He has been seeming still hungry after he nurses, so we decided he may be ready.

He did so well!!! I thought for sure we would have problems with him pushing the food out with his tongue. Nope! None of that at all. He sucked it right down.
He would slurp it like soup.
He LOVED it and would have kept eating, but we cut him off. I didn't want him to get a tummy ache.

It worked so good putting him in his high chair. His head was better supported. He likes to play with his bib and pull it up to his face. So that was kinda messy, but it just shocked us how well he did!!!

This morning I fed him some and he smiled the whole time. He was so excited to eat it!!! It was cute.

Another visit to the hospital

Well, Vollen had a horrible night last night. He was up about ever hour coughing and restless (thus, so was I). I stood in the steamy bathroom before bed and then again 5:00am. He was struggling to breath again. So, called the dr. they said take him in again to the ER.

Up in our room after we were admitted to the hospital AGAIN! If they have more than one breathing treatment in the ER then they are automatically admitted into the hospital. He had 2 so, up we went to the 4th floor again.

Sophie played in the play room until we got kicked out because Vollen was in isolation. Siblings of kids in isolation can not be in there! Woops....no one told us! She had so much fun when she was in there though.

We were discharged at 5:30pm tonight. He had done great all day with no other breathing treatments needed and not struggling anymore to get air in. We do have to go to the doctors tomorrow and get him checked out and they are going to send us home with an oral steroid that we can use if we need. But at least we get to be home sleeping in our own beds tonight!

Millard Parade

My mom watched the kids today and took them to the Millard Parade.

What a beautiful, crisp fall morning.

ER & Hospital Stay

Vollen got Sophie's cold, it turned into croup yesterday and he sounded horrible. I called the dr. yesterday to see if I could give him anything, they said no, just humidifier etc... So, this morning at 2:00 Vollen woke up struggling to breath. I woke Vernon up and we called into the doctor. They said bring him into the ER. I took him in and they gave him a breathing treatment (epinephrine) and that didn't really help very much. He was gasping really hard and sucking in with his lungs right under his rib cage. Then they gave him the steroid shot to decrease the swelling in his throat so air could pass through. The shot takes anywhere from 4 to 12 hours to start working. They gave him 2 more breathing treatments and then the shot finally kicked in around 10:00am. We were admitted to Children's Hospital at 7:00am. He was doing much, much better. He still has the terrible cough and sounds congested, but he is not struggling to breath like before. They decided since he did very well all day and didn't need anymore breathing treatments that he could go home! He was discharged around 6:00pm. I was just getting up from my nap and Vernon was on his way home with him! It sure was a nice surprise to wake up to. I am glad he looks and sounds better. Now its just a matter of catching back up on sleep! Thank you to everyones thoughts and prayers, they worked!!!

Exciting News!

My cousin Dave and his wife Sarah are expecting their first baby!!!! She e-mailed everyone yesterday to break the news since her brother spilled the beans on Facebook, when they all found out the night before, but they had to tell the grandparents in person first last night before it was leaked out to everyone! Their first 7 week appointment was on Tuesday. They couldn't pin point an exact due date so the doctor decided to do an ultrasound. Once the doctor got started he had a really surprised look on his face. Sarah said Dave immediately thought...twins! It turns out it wasn't twins but they were quite a bit further along than the doctor initially thought! He told them that they were not 7 weeks, but more like 18 weeks! They also found out that they are having a little boy!! They were both speechless. They went from 1 month to 4 months pregnant in a matter of an hour. Sarah said she doesn't look or feel pregnant and she is almost half way there. Can you believe it????? To go from not even knowing you are pregnant to being almost half way done!!!! I told her it will be the fastest pregnancy ever!!! Congratulations you guys we can't wait to meet the little guy at the end of January!!!!

Big, BIG Girl Bed

Today we finally moved our old mattress into Sophie's room for her 'Big Girl Bed'.

She looks so tiny in it.
Since we had the room for it in her room, we figured why not!
I think she is the only 2 year old who has a king size bed.

We just didn't want to spend money on a new bed, when we had this mattress laying around. I just might have to find some cute sheets to go with the duvet cover. The bed spread was from our guest bedroom. I think the cover goes really well. So, another thing we didn't have to go out and spend money on!!!

But...we did also leave the crib in there for now, just in case...

So far tonight she is doing really well. We'll see if it lasts all night long!

My Boo Boo
